THE HAGUE – KITCHEN DINER
classic  / luxurious / residential

In the centre of the Hague you will find this former office building that has been renovated into a warm and comfortable home by interior designer Edith Asselbergs. Koolhoven Furniture Makers and Edith Asselbergs Interiors have worked together on realizing complete interior for customers in the past, but it was very special to be asked by Edith to create a kitchen for her personal home.

Edith’s interiors are near perfect so the bar was set high and with joined forces we were able to create a beautiful kitchen. Joeri Koolhoven: ‘It requires a lot of your own creativity to create a kitchen for somebody with this much knowledge of the field and feeling for temporary interior design. Our perfect collaboration and shared love for quality materials has led to this successful result.’ In line with both Edith Asselbergs ánd Joeri Koolhoven’s signature, this has become a traditional yet modern kitchen with all contemporary conveniences seamlessly incorporated.

This unique building has multiple storeys and the spacious kitchen is located on the ground floor overlooking an attractive patio. Because light enters this special space from two sides the kitchen island has legs, giving the light free play around it. There is a lot of colour in this kitchen, yet the whole radiates tranquility.

Marble counter top
The kitchen has been painted in Inchyra Blue, a new colour by Farrow & Ball that perfectly combines with the marble counter top. The piece of marble used for this counter was handpicked at the stonemason by Edith herself. We have seen the rough material transform into a smooth polished kitchen top. The counter top is completely seamless so all the attention is naturally drawn towards the beautiful vein in this Italian Carrara Arabescato marble.

Minimalistic feel
To give the kitchen a spacious effect, Bianco Carrara marble has been placed in open book against the back wall. The subtle kitchen handles from Dauby, from the Pure line and handpicked by Edith herself, give the kitchen a minimalistic feel.

Integrated extractor
Marble is a material that speaks for itself, that’s why the counter top and sink are executed in the same marble. Because the Gaggenau induction stove has an integrated extractor there is nothing hanging from the ceiling to disturb the balance in the kitchen design.

Sustainable and natural materials
It’s not only about the exterior of a kitchen, the interior also has to show craftsmanship and quality. That’s why we use sustainable and natural materials for the interiors of our kitchens. This solid base is distinctive for the look & feel of a Koolhoven kitchen.

Pure brushed oak shelf
The back wall is symmetricall and perfectly balanced by the two china cabinets that are connected with a floating shelf in which led spots are blindly fastened. We’ve chosen a pure brushed oak shelf, oiled, to emphasize the natural character of this material.

Custom made furniture
The beautiful thing about custom made furniture is that everything is possible. Because Joeri and Edith wanted to create a real kitchen diner but did not want a TV in sight, the TV has been incorporated in the back wall of the china cabinet. This way in can easily be pushed out of sight when needed.

Manually rounded
All profiles are manually rounded bring unity into the whole kitchen. The marble counter top also has manually rounded corners that give the material a more touchable feel.

Equipment by Gaggenau
The kitchen equipment by Gaggenau complements the luxurious feeling of this kitchen. A stylish detail: the knobs for the stove are fixed to a Carrara Abricato marble front like a jewel.
